Elementary Instrumental Programs

We are excited to introduce a new pilot string instrument program for 3rd-grade students (2024-2025) at Mary R. Fisher Elementary School. Mrs. George (MRFES Music Teacher) will be introducing students to the world of instrumental music through learning to play the violin or cello.

In addition, starting in the 2024-2025 school year, 4th-grade students will be eligible to learn a band instrument such as flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or percussion. Mr. Ruel (TMS Music Director) will teach instrument lessons and prepare students for middle school band.

At MRFES, our overarching goal is to help students become independent, knowledgeable, and community-connected. We believe that incorporating these elementary strings and band programs into the music education curriculum aligns perfectly with this vision.

Participation in the strings program is open to all children and is voluntary, but we highly encourage your child to take advantage of these enriching opportunities. Whether they are aspiring musicians or simply curious learners, this program offers a supportive environment where they can explore their musical talents and develop valuable life skills.

If you have any questions about these programs, please contact Mrs. George.

4th Grade Choir (Fortezza)

Participation in the 4th-grade after-school choir, Fortezza, is open to all students who would like to engage in singing with their peers outside of music class. The choir meets once a week after school and prepares music to perform at community events, such as Thompson Community Day, the Day-Kimball Tree Lighting, and the Thompson Memorial Day Parade.

If you have any questions about this program, please contact Mrs. George.
