National Geographic Bee

On Friday, March 31st TMS grade student Anthony Vajcovec traveled to the Welte Auditorium of Central Ct State University to compete in the state level of the National Geographic Bee. Anthony was accompanied by grade 7 geography teacher Jay Hardell and fellow classmate Aidan Russell. During the state level bee, Anthony answered 6 of his 8 questions correctly. The two students who moved on from his assigned class answered 7 questions correct. Anthony was very close to moving on to the next round. TMS’s 4-H Club – Health Care Drive

Read Across America Day!

  On March 2nd, 2017, Mrs. Groh and Ms. Monahan’s 6th grade classes celebrated Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Throughout the day, students were able to enjoy many guest readers that visited Thompson Middle School grade 6 classrooms.  The morning started with Tourtellotte Memorial High School gym teacher Mrs. Ten eyck who shared a favorite story that she loves to read to her son.  Mary R. Fisher Elementary School Principal Nov Beltram also shared one of her favorite stories. Thompson Middle School basketball coach, Mr. Jay Azar chose a favorite of his as well. Thompson Middle School’s Nurse Ann read Rhyme with Lyme and gave a mini lesson on lyme disease. Throughout the day, current as well as former educators, came to read. Long-time retired educator Mr. Jewell and Mr. Jim Lucason came out of retirement to read to our students.  Thompson Middle School’s Principal Mr. Chris Scott, as well as Thompson Middle School’s assistant principal Mr. Larry Prentiss also shared a story. Mr. Joe Lindley, who currently serves on the Board of Education, and has published four of his own books, shared with our students some of the books he is the author of. Trooper Cody Picard, a former Thompson School student, that now serves and protects in law enforcement, came back to read in his former 6th grade class. What an honor that was to have him return to his grade 6 classroom!!!  We also had a couple grandparents of our 6th graders, Mrs. Canty and Mr. and Mrs. Thebeau join our class.
