PBIS Clarification – Thompson Pupil Services Director Dr. Barbara Macauley
In the fall of 2014 Dr. Macauley was asked to apply for “CT’s SPDG (State Personnel Development Grant). This was in response to a SDEBSE’s (State Department of Education Bureau of Special Education) Focused Monitoring which determined that based on the SDE’s percentages there were too many high school students outplaced in the years 2008-2011. This grant was developed to expand and sustain a coordinated, statewide system of professional development, coaching, and support to schools, PreK-12, to improve educational outcomes for all students through the provision of a continuum of academic and behavior supports. In addition to programming on CT’s SRBI (Scientifically Researched Based Interventions) Framework, comprehensive reading instruction, (PBIS), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and data driven decision-making, participants will receive support on determining educational benefit for students with disabilities, developing standards-based IEPs, and increasing family/community engagement.”
The grant period is three (3) years and is equal to over $150-200,000 in funds and services.
