On November 2nd, the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band members attended the 31st annual School Concert Series presented by the United States Coast Guard Band! The students traveled to Leamy Hall at the historic U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. These age-specific performances allow students to experience an educational and entertaining hour long performance by a world-class 50-piece Concert Band. This year’s performances, led by the Band’s Assistant Director Richard Wyman, surrounded students (literally and figuratively) with great music inspired by things that “surround” our daily lives- such as firecrackers, insects, parades, and nuclear reactors! The concert featured music of varying styles, with interesting background information about the things in our daily lives that inspired each composer. The students were also treated to a performance of the Star Spangled Banner and Semper Paratus, the U.S. Coast Guard’s marching song, sung by Musician 1st Class Megan Weikleenget.
